To avoid the interference of the electrical factory, the signal layer and power layer must be separated, so the design of multi-layer circuits is involved. Before designing a multilayer PCB, the designer first needs to decide whether to use a printed circuit board stackup based on the size of the circuit, the size of the printed circuit board and the requirements of electromagnetic compatibility (EMC), that is, whether to use a 4 layer PCB, a 6 layer PCB or more. This is a simple concept for designing a multilayer board.

After determining the number of layers, determine the position of the layers and how to distribute different signals on them. This is the choice of the multilayer PCB stackup. Stackup is an important factor affecting the EMC performance of PCB. A good 6 layer PCB design, the stack-up design will greatly reduce the impact of electromagnetic interference (EMI) and crosstalk.

The number of layers in a PCB is not as high as it is good or as low as it is good. More factors need to be considered in determining the 6 layer PCB stack-up. In terms of wiring, more layers are more conducive to wiring, but PCB manufacturing costs and difficulties will also increase. How to stackup? Which stackup is better? Generally follow the following basic principles.

1. The component surface and welding surface are shielded by a complete ground plane.

2. There are no adjacent parallel wiring layers as much as possible.

3. All signal layers are as adjacent to the ground plane as possible.

4. The key signal is adjacent to the stratum and does not cross the divided area.


Operating the stackup manager

1. Right-click the mouse and execute the "Insert layer above" or "Insert layer below" command, you can add layers, and you can add positive or negative films; execute the "Move layer up" or "Move layer down" command, you can add layers. The order of layers is adjusted.

2. Double-click the corresponding name, you can change the name. Generally, it can be changed to TOP, GND02, SIN03, SIN04, PWR05, BOTTOM, that is, "letter + layer number Altium Designer 19 comes with this function. ", so it is easy to read identify.

3. Set the layer thickness according to the stackup structure.

5. In order to meet the designed 20H, the shrinkage of the negative layer can be set.

It is suggested that the signal layer should be processed as a positive film, and the power and ground layers should be processed as a negative film, which can greatly reduce the size of the file data and improve the design speed.
