In the general soldering process, because the plug-in RJ45 connector is completed by wave soldering technology, and the SMT RJ45 connector is completed by reflow soldering technology. Therefore, SMT RJ45 connectors have to withstand higher temperatures than plug-in connectors.

Wave soldering requires that the pins of the board component pass through the PCB, and the lead part of the circuit board is completed by melting the solder surface during soldering. In the wave soldering process, because the solder joints are separated from the hard plastic insulators by a printed board, only the metal pins passing through the circuit are in contact with the high-temperature solder surface. The printed board can isolate most of the heat from the components. Therefore, perforated parts do not need special high-temperature-resistant raw materials, and can still achieve the purpose of welding.

How to choose the material of PCB process SMT RJ45 connector


The soldering of SMT RJ45 connectors is different, SMT RJ45JACK parts are all done through a high-temperature furnace.

Reflow oven. To solder the SMT RJ45 connector, the entire circuit board must be passed through a high-temperature furnace for sufficient time to melt the solder before connecting with the SMT pins. The operation process requires the socket to withstand high temperatures up to 260°C to allow the SMT components to pass through the high-temperature furnace. Excessive furnace temperature or too long time can cause the metal compound to open the solder or damage the circuit board and some sensitive components. In order to ensure the requirements for the components of the SMT RJ45 connector welding process, many high-temperature-resistant plastic insulators have been put on the market. For example: LCP, PPS, PCT and other plastic bodies have excellent high temperature resistance and plasticity. The plastic body is characterized by fast heat dissipation, strong moisture resistance, and easy injection molding. It is especially important that these plastic insulators have excellent stability, low bending, and can be injection molded into tiny shapes, which can reduce the size of the connector and thus help the distribution of heat during the welding process. The traditional fiber polyethylene material is a non-high temperature resistant plastic insulator, which will melt when passing through a high temperature furnace, so it is applied to perforated connectors and can only be used in the wave soldering process.
